The Home Depot¡¦s Disaster Response Support in China

On Monday, May 12, 2008, a devastating earthquake struck Sichuan province in China, less than 600 kilometres away from the Xi¡¦an Home Depot. I want to extend our thoughts and sympathies to our associates with friends and family that have been affected by this tragedy.

As part of our commitment to providing disaster response support we will be providing critical temporary shelter to help the thousands of people in China whose homes were destroyed. The Home Depot China, in cooperation with the China Charity Foundation and the Ministry of China will distribute 1000 tents in the devastated areas. This $200,000 effort has been funded in part by The Home Depot Foundation who provided $100,000 of immediate support.

The additional $100,000 will be raised by The Home Depot China and their vendor partners who together will donate a total of 10% from the sales of specific products. The Home Depot China is also organizing associate and vendor donations in support of the relief efforts and Team Depot volunteers will travel to affected areas to provide additional hands-on support.

Associates who are interested in making a donation to a relief agency of their choice are reminded of The Home Depot Foundation¡¦s Matching Gift Program that will match individual associate gifts from $25 to $1000.

Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures and the disaster support that we are able to provide China speaks volumes for our ability to live our values. I am extremely proud of how we have come together to do the right thing.
